I have never been to a Cellar Door before - What do I do?

At Rimfire we welcome everyone from the novice to the expert, so please feel at ease as you enter the Rimfire Winery Cellar Door..

Our staff are wine lovers not lecturers and will be happy to guide you through our range of wines and styles at your own pace.

We will answer your questions (never be embarrassed to ask if you don’t know…) and assist you where-ever we can.

If it makes you more comfortable here are some simple tips …the basic process of formally tasting a wine is to swirl, sniff and sip.

The swirling: Releases the characters, in particular the aromas, of the wine from the liquid into the glass. Assess the colour – as you become more experienced you will begin to look for colour variations between varieties, and characteristics relating to the age and style of the wine and so forth of the wine.

The sniffing: Allows you to appreciate those aromas and get a hint of the flavours to follow, and again as you become more experienced, you pick up on other positive or possibly negative aspects of the wine relating its age, composition and style.

The sipping: Definitely the best bit! Of course offers you your first taste of the wine. Of course as you develop your palate and level of experience you will come to appreciate finer aspects of a wines personality… but above all do you like it! ….that is what is all about!

The art of spitting!
At Rimfire we provide a spittoon – this is for your convenience.

Please do not be embarrassed to use it – especially if you are a nominated driver!

There is a small range of cold drinks or water available to be purchased from the cellar door fridge.
